Legacy
Though the use of dogs by the blind is known since A.D, the first modern guide dog school opened in 1916 by Dr. Stalling in Oldenburg, Germany. The first US school - The Masters Eye Institute, Minneapolis, 1926 started by Jack L. Sinykin provided the guide dog to blinded Senator Schall. Both programs suffered failures and only lasted a short period. It was however, following the success and works of Morris Frank, the foundation took a stronghold not only in America, but extended to UK, Italy, Switzerland, and Australia.
